The United Hong Kong benefit, an unprecedented socially distanced fundraiser, to be postponed to 2021

21 November 2020 – The United Hong Kong benefit, a socially distanced fundraising event, which successfully demonstrated the beauty and power of collaboration in times of hardship, will now be postponed to 2021.

“Recent developments indicate that the conditions for holding this fundraiser are no longer as safe as we needed. We have taken the decision out of an abundance of caution and have decided not to proceed and instead push the date of the event back to a more appropriate time — which we will announce in due course,” says Michel Lamunière, Founder of United Hong Kong and Chairman & CEO of the Tatler Asia Group, the organiser of the event.

“In the meantime, we remain committed to raising valuable funds for Light Be. On that note, our unique silent auction lots are now live on and available for bidding until December 31, 2020. We have curated unique products and experiences rarely seen on the auction block. Please bid generously and remember that you are helping to support an extremely worthy cause.”

In an unprecedented collaboration, the United Hong Kong benefit brought together 13 iconic Hong Kong hotels and 13 performing arts groups to agree to work together in staging a fundraising benefit for social housing enterprise Light Be. In partnership with Prenetics, leading genetics and diagnostic health testing company, the United Hong Kong benefit also distributed around 1,200 testing kits free of charge to all its staff and guests to encourage everyone to be mindful of staying safe and healthy.

“At this time, we would also like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors – HSBC Private Banking, Chopard and FANCL; our partners, Occasions Asia Pacific, Phillips Auctioneers, Prenetics; the 13 hotels and all our performing arts partners; all vendors and suppliers; and everyone else who pledged their support to Light Be, including our Bauhinia patrons Mr. Adrian Cheng and Mr. Peter Woo,” adds Lamunière. “Your support thus far has been immensely encouraging that the United Hong Kong benefit can and should continue.”

“Despite this postponement, I am overwhelmed by the support Michel and the community have shown Light Be,” says Ricky Yu, Founder of Light Be. “This outstanding and innovative initiative has given much-needed awareness to our mission to lift people out of temporary hardship and poverty.” says Ricky Yu, Founder of Light Be.
To continue the fundraising efforts in support of Light Be, the unique and highly curated silent auction lots are now live and available on until December 31 2020. All pledges that have been made so far will also be given directly to Light Be.

“The support and enthusiasm shown for this initiative have been overwhelming,” says Lamunière. “We look forward to bringing the United Hong Kong to benefit back and celebrating Hong Kong’s can-do spirit together.”
