Malaysia Tatler Unveils Generation T List for 2018


[KUALA LUMPUR – APRIL 27, 2018]Malaysia Tatler hosted a jubilant night to honour 50 of Malaysia’s game changers, including the unveiling of its Generation T 2018 list on 27 April at the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur.

The annual list recognises entrepreneurs, innovators and creatives who are shaping Malaysia’s future through industries such as social entrepreneurship, the arts, technology, food & drink, fashion, retail, science & healthcare and sports.

Among the Generation T-listers of 2018 in attendance that evening included, Awal Ashaari, Vivy Yusof, Chiaw Haw Choon, Wan Nadiah Wan Mohd Abdullah Yaacob, Chryseis Tan, Fiziwoo, Aaron Patel, Suhaili Micheline and Farah Ann Abdul Hadi.  

This list is curated with the help of a panel of 10 industry leaders including Pertiwi Soup Kitchen’s founder Datuk Munirah Hamid, performing arts veteran Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina, restaurateur Michele Kwok, social entrepreneur John-Son Oei and multi-hyphenated business owner Bryan Loo.

Generation T 2018 List

The evening began with an exclusive dinner with our panellists and Generation T listers at the Mandarin Grill. The keynote speaker for the night was Dzameer Dzulkifli — two-time Generation T lister and managing director of education social enterprise Teach for Malaysia. He was joined by members from the Tatler community, William Sin and Denise Chiew, who travelled with Dzameer to teach students for a day in a rural school in Kedah, which was the cover story of Malaysia Tatler’s May issue.

William, who runs the family business Hallmark Jewellery, opened up about the stark contrast between his own background and that of the children from the rural community: “These kids have it hard. It’s either they make it in life or they don’t, so I saw how important it was for educators to really care about shaping these children beyond academic results, to be where they want to be.”

Dzameer added on how education is the key of unlocking our nation’s future, “It’s hard for someone outside of education to understand what’s going on, unless they step in and shadow a teacher for a day, then see what can be done for underprivileged students.”

The celebration continued at the launch party, where 285 guests turned up to meet our selected success stories, despite a heavy downpour that brought KL traffic to a standstill. The party was in full-motion when Generation T 2017 lister Zee Avi performed for the crowd, singing a selection of her famous songs.

It was later announced that Malaysia Tatler raised RM 105,000 for TFM’s cause, thanks to 12 generous donors from the Tatler and Generation T community. Dzameer also announced that TFM’s partner bank CIMB Islamic will match the amount donated, rounding up the total contribution to an astounding RM210,000.
